Tu Lan – bestest Vietnamese food
29 Sep

Tu Lan is a hole in the wall Vietnamese place off of Market St in San Francisco, CA. It’s in a shady neighborhood, but I’m willing to travel far and wide for good food. =) I found out about Tu Lan after reading this, coincidently, right before I went to San Francisco.
(Btw, 25 cents = 5 minutes of parking. FIVE minutes!!!)
One of the owner’s sons (I THINK he was the son, not sure who he was, really)started making conversation with me and was kind enough to give me suggestions on what to order.
“What’s so great about the fried rice?” I asked.
“Grease,” he said. “Lots of grease.”
It was lunchtime so there was a long line out the door. I heard the owner say “Same dish today? See you next week,” a couple of times to different customers.

The Emperial roll. It’s basically a double-fried spring roll with a side of fish sauce. How can you go wrong?

The Pho broth had tons of flavor and I especially liked the extra thick noodles. Not a fan of raw onions though.
The Banh Hoi with beef was so good! The beef was tender, cooked perfectly and it went well with the rest of its dish components.
