What’s so special about French toast?

Now, I acknowledge that devoting an entire post to French toast might not be so exciting for some of you. It’s true. I never thought that this would be “special” enough to post about, but here I am.

I’m here to shed some light on the secret to making really good French toast.
The plan was to cook up some yummy French toast with some bread I made earlier, but that didn’t happen. Instead, I had some whole wheat bread so that’s what I used.

The key to making good French toast is to let the bread sit out for a day or two. The firmness of the bread will keep its shape and absorbs the eggs much better. I gathered my bread on a plate and left it on my counter overnight. I think a day or two of sitting out should be good. Of course, if you happen to have old bread, even better!
Ingredients:
4 slices of bread
3 eggs
3 tbs of milk (Whole milk is best, but others work too)
1 tsp of vanilla extract
Sprinkle of salt
Procedure:

1. In a medium sized bowl, fluff together eggs, milk and vanilla. Blend together with fork or small whisk.

2. Dredge the slices of bread. Make sure entire bread is covered in egg. Flip over and repeat with other side.
3. Heat up frying pan covered with oil. Over medium heat, cook the slices of bread, about 3 minutes on each side.
4. Repeat with rest of the bread.
5. Serve with Maple syrup, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and/or confectioners sugar.
