Kitchen Tip: How to Prepare Artichokes

Do you remember the first time you had an artichoke? For me, I was in college. My friend mixed canned artichoke hearts into pasta sauce. I really enjoyed the unique flavor of artichokes and have been a fan ever since.
While doing some research on what to do with artichokes, I discovered that the entire outer portion gets discarded because of its tough exterior. But I only had 3 artichokes to begin with, so removing all the outer layers didn’t seem appealing. I decided to shift gears and make up a recipe that would enable me to use the whole thing.
So how do you actually get to the slightly pale green artichoke heart that you know and love?
